Anyways, I really hope AMD can keep up.. If it wasn't for them, we would be using itanium processors for our 64 bit needs and still be using processors based off of netburst :[
The Volt can go further than 70 miles. However, most people can run off the battery for daily commuting. That's the point of the car. Most people don't drive more than few miles daily.

Itanium died because it was too expensive and too different....
Once again...

It will be interesting to see how much of a performance boost Ivy Bridge gains over Sandy Bridge with 3D transistor technology. This will be an interesting 2 years for the AMD / Intel battle for the desktop market.
AMD was behind in the fab market since the start of the Intel/AMD war...They weren't always behind in performance.

maybe not 3d transistors .. but something epic to rival intel's use of 3d transistors ...

and in a distant future amd will too have that tech for themselves

not some wild conspiracy theory that some would have ... its that simple ...

Don't forget that Intel has a budget for R&D that... well... i can't say for sure but i'm pretty sure that the total amount will be close to AMD's full production budget ehehehhe ...

Like i said, i can't say for sure the amount... i only know that for R&D Intel has a huge budget ... and AMD doesn't ... so we can't make miracles happen without money on this market

What is a miracle is that they are able to push out a brand new, market-revolutionarizing architecture with the little money they have, and that their Phenoms are still competitive.

They've been paying debts since long, long time ago. Now they're starting to be solvent again, probably since the bought of ATi.

If we could compare two persons calling them AMD and Intel, AMD would be a family that has to feed six mouths with a $1000 salary; while Intel would be a rich fat ass with one kid that gets a monthly income of $100,000.

I buy AMD products because I like their marketing techniques and because I hate monopolized markets. And because they get the job done.
Graphics cards... Well, because they do the same eating less power, and being MUCH cheaper (at least in Europe, a 6950 2GB is €240, while a GTX570 is almost €380).

Anyways. AMD needs to keep gaining market share slowly till the day they have money to raise a foundry. Then they will be completely independent > more competitive.

But GF + IBM + Samsung have joint R&D budget.

Very true I was just scratching the surface, I was just making the point that without one you don't have the other.

I also had a lot of lolz at all the fanboys going "this is the end of AMD" derp, derp.

I think that this is the new beginning of AMD.

I hope so!

I've been planning a 2nd rig for months, and it only made sense to wait for BD to come out. I sure hope it lives up, or at least comes close to the hype.

Even if it doesn't live up to all the hype or is equal to the Sandy Bridge you can guarantee that 2 things will happen.

1) if it doesn't live up to all the hype or is equal to Sandy Bridge it will the cheaper of the two.

2) It's better than what we have now, so it's a win/win situation.

Agree. If BD ends up cheaper it will sell like hotcakes. Time will tell. DO you think the benchmarks have already been done and they are just waiting for the NDA to drop? Kinda like vid cards?
