[Massively] SWTOR expected launch window confirmed - Page 5

This is a complete fail in my opinion... I would love it if the space universe was as free and massive as EVE. That would make me drool over this game.

Yea I do agree. I really wish it was totally free flight. I hope at the very least those flight paths are branching.

After a long day of dangerous DNA harvesting I would head back to my house on Tatooine and experiment with the samples to make the most unique creatures in the galaxy.

After creating my creatures I would train certain ones and sell them as pets in the major cities. With the most unique ones I would put them on display in my Zoo of exotic creatures (with a small 1500 credit entrance fee)

THAT GAME WAS SO FRICKEN AWESOME
That sounds time consuming. But also sounds like it would be strangely fun. So you could actually create hybrid creatures?

It wasn't as time consuming as it sounds. I didn't even have to attack or kill the creatures. You couldn't make hybrid looking creatures per say (only color and size wise I believe), but each DNA sample carried something like 9 different stats + abilities, so stat wise you could make hybrid creatures.

ah. Well maybe in TOR you'll be able to create hybrid looking creatures as well. You'd think with all the morphing programs that they could do something like that.

removed from EA release schedule:

“We’re holding the date for two reasons,” EA Games boss Frank Gibeau stated. “First, we don’t want to tip off the competition; second, we want more data from the beta test to guarantee a spectacular experience at launch.”
EA still anticipates the game will release this calendar year but admits that January 2012 remains a possibility.
Looks like they have their eyes on GW2.

I don't think EA considers GW2 competition. They're probably referring to Blizzard/Activision & anything they may be planning w/ WoW.

Actually, given the amount of comments all over the internet with people praising GW2, I am hardly surprised they see GW2 as part of their competition too, don't forget that an MMO which you pay no monthly fees for are quite popular, especially if it's a premium one.

WoW will always be the obvious competition, just because its sheer staggering amount of subscribers, not only has WoW (unfortunately) become a template for most MMO's it is also a template for just printing money.

When did they ever say this? The official word is second half of 2011.

Almost every site reporting on this has blown it out of proportion. The information came from the EA investor meeting on May 4th. The CFO basically indicated that their internal target for launch was FYQ2 (July-September) and that based on feedback from game testing, could be pushed back to Q3. He also says: “While we fully anticipate launching Star Wars: The Old Republic in Q2 or Q3, the low end of our guidance range assumes the outside possibility of a January launch.” They're just saying that to cover their butts in case something goes horribly wrong in game testing that they have to fix. They want it out this year.

And they should!

It's kind of stupid to postpone an MMO release, MMO gamers seem to be more loyal than ordinary non-subscription gamers, if you postpone your game, and another MMO comes out and takes away your gamers you're screwed, not everybody is excited to pay a subscription fee, even less are excited to pay two subs.

With conventional games postponing because of competition is viable, because after a few weeks/months the audience is saturated with that game and are longing for more, that's when you want to release your game.

MMO's are built to be addictive and to be content rich, if you postpone your release there's even greater chance your audience is going to look elsewhere and possibly find their latest trend.
