HD 5770 and Win XP don't play nice - Page 2

Thanks for all the reply's. Just to put some fears to rest this machines config isn't my choice nor is the OS that its uses. It is a work rig that was order for me and I had no input on its layout.

Also the reason that we are running Windows XP and not 7 is again not my doing LOL. The AutoCAD version and engineering software that we use is so old that it will not work on Windows 7 we've tried. So my boss thinks it's easier to downgrade a 7 rig to XP instead of updating the industry software.

The only reason I was going to try the HDMI was because of the 3D rendering work we do thought it might help.

So DVI it is then..

Rest assured my home rig isn't this FUBAR..

Thanks again for the help!

If you manually download .NET 2.0, it should work, but if you'd like to use DVI - ok

.NET 3.5 does NOT cover .NET 2.0, as s1 mentioned - the versions are not backwards compatible - .NET 2.0 programs do not run if only .NET 3.5 libraries are installed.

It IS helpful. DVI has exactly identical image quality as HDMI, and we're informing the OP of that, so he isn't under the misconception that HDMI is somehow better, and therefore will be happy with DVI and the issue will be gone.

I've had instances where the ATI drivers refuse to acknowledge that .NET framework 2.0 is installed if I install it after the drivers. I've had to do a completely clean driver reinstall to get Catalyst Control Center working if I installed .NET after the drivers. This involved uninstalling the drivers, rebooting, running driver cleaner pro, rebooting again, install .net, and then finally install the AMD drivers.

The setting to fix this you're looking for is related to overscan/underscan. I believe making it "overscan" will make it fit the panel appropriately.

Come on, De-Zant, this is a newb solution and you know it.

"Hey, help, this doesn't work! "
"Don't use it".

Yeah, you're welcome.

The issue is the error message that keeps him from installing the drivers, and that error message won't go away if he just sticks to the DVI.

Glad it worked. XP is like a woman - has a mind of its own and often makes no sense.
