Agree that the ground breaking nature of the original EQ produced memories that are just irreplaceable. Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
I was a ranger on Bertox named Tanuvian. Also had a monk named Relldorn.

Out of curiosity, did any of you EQ1ers ever give EQ2 a fair shake? I never played EQ1, but EQ2 was outstanding. I tried to get my EQ1 friend into it, but he quit and went back to EQ1. He's still playing it to this day.

EQ2 was good, but it never lived up to EQ1 for me. It's f2p now, so anyone can check it out. EQ2 still looks great, though. Except the water

Favorite Raid event in EQ was by far The Performer. Never in my life have I witnessed such organised chaos, people running everywhere spamming song lyrics to NPCs while beating down bosses, crowed controlling adds, complete heal rotations kiters and DPS assists.
If only the kids knew what it takes to organize and execute a 54 man raid of that depth and difficulty.
Learning how to beat an event like that took dozens of failures which would take weeks even months to overcome which made it seem so much more of an achievement over todays tank and spank copy paste raids.

I also challenge anyone to do the "raster" camp in guk for the first monk epic, talk about nightmare camps when epics were the &^#@ you'd be lucky to get the camp let alone the mob that seems to only spawn once every few days.

The old 72 man raids were true chaos. Especially in the Plane of Time.

Played EQ2 for a solid month. Have a 81 Bard main that I loved in EQ1, tried out a bard in EQ2...not the same. EQ2 seemed to be more like a weak WoW copy (as much as I hate to admit it). The content seemed too watered down and the zones seemed to be chopped down in size considerably.

I was considering re-subbing for a month, then I remembered that SoE is down indefinitely.

I tried EQ2 out but as with all other MMOs since EQ1 they just didn't compare. I remember doing my 1st "big" (at the time) raid. Daerek the Vindicator or Vindi as every1 called him. Chain healing on my cleric. Then when he died everyone in the guild had already killed him a few times so I ended up with his BP. Think I was the only cleric that wore a Vindi BP for a bit lol (wasnt really cleric armor). That and camping underwater and in that zone with all the wyrms for my clerics epic 1.0 ....and camping Plane of Fear for ..wait for it..

But I'm still thinking of coming back on Fippy and trying out the progression.
