I'll think I will go with your advise to wait on Llano.
If in the end of June there is still nothing anounced or available here in the Netherlands, then I will check some more for the "older" stuff.

Everybody, thanks on your advise, especially with the shopping lists, that's very nice of you all.
Good luck !

Again, it's not Phenom II but Athlon II. For apps that like L3 cache, the distinction matters. Llano should be launching early July.

Well, somewhat.
Llano is based on Phenom II's, but only sports 4MB L2 cache (1MB each core).
So indeed. In theory, it's almost an Athlon II but with, presumably, higher clocks.

I was checking still a bit for the present stuff at Alternate, couldn't help myself still trying to see if I can come up with something.
This is what version 1.0 is:

1. CPU: Athlon II x4 640 - Alternate: 83.90 EURO
2. MB: Asrock 870 Extreme 3 - 72.90 EURO
3. Mem: Kingston DDR3-1600Mhz (checked if compatible with MB) - 47.49 EURO
4. PSU: Corsair CMPSU-500CX 500w - 49.49 EURO
5. HDD: 1TB Samsung HD103SJ SpinPoint F3 - 46.99 EURO
6. Case: Cooler Master Elite 310 - 34.49 EURO
7. Gfx: MSI R6570-MD1GD3/LP - 67.90 EURO

I probably can re-use her DVD-RW or her DVD-RAM player again, so need for that.

Total costs: 403.16 EURO

Hmm think I have to tell my sis to throw in another 100 Euro, it sounds like a lot, but if you think about how long you are going to use it...it's not so bad then.

I am feeling improvements on this list coming up.

I'd honestly recommend you keep the current processor, as it is much faster than Zacate clock-for-clock, buy a 4GB DDR2 kit, buy a new motherboard, a new GPU, over-clock, and enjoy.

Getting Zacate when you already have a faster CPU doesn't make much sense.

The benefit of L3 cache is pretty much cancelled, then. If it has 1MB cache per core, that's much better than the current 512kb per core.

Changing to amd zacate will be a downgrade.

Just change the cpu to a core2quad Q8400 or higher.
Change the ram to 3GB DDR 800 which is probably the max supported by the board,
and get her a GT240 or HD4650 for Sims 3

Oh, that bad ? Hmmm, thought this Core2Duo story was also a bit adged, but seems I was wrong. Never been investigating Intel that much.
But I don't wanna go for DDR2, better get her something in DDR3. I will see her tomorrow and will talk some sense into her regarding the budget. Better to go Phenom II x4. Or perhaps wait a month or 2 and then go for Llano as suggested by a few good men in this topic.
