Would you get the sapphire? I don't really know how to unlock the card but will figure that out once the computer is built. Also, since newegg is out of stock, any place other than Amazon to buy these from?
This is just personal preference:
1: Only buy the reference version of those if your going to try unlock the shaders, and/or buy an aftermarket cooler for it, because those chipset-sized HSF's are ..bad.
This is not personal preference, its common sense
2: The actual gaming performance increase from unlocking the card ranges on Avg
from 1-10 fps, And if you search for "6950 bricked after unlock" you'll get quite an amount of returns, even here i've seen countless people making threads about their cards going berserk after a month or 2 (varies) after unlocking the shaders via 6970 bios, as they do not
have the same VRAM.
My own conclusion: The 6950 2gb is more then capable of maxing out virtually all games on a single monitor just as it is.
