Both the original UT and 2004 are very much alive. In fact, even UT3 modding and mapping (http://cbp.beyondunreal.com/download) is still kinda alive, although the same cannot be said about the game itself. Such a shame, 'cause imo UT3 has the best core gameplay in the series, it's just that Epic didn't bother to make a proper interface for the game, didn't bother to make a proper multiplayer (gamespy? more like ****spy!) and surprisingly enough didn't pay enough attention to the gameplay modes.

After UT2003 fiasco this is very, very bizarre, 'cause they did release UT2004, they did acknowledge and fix their mistakes and yet it seems that they've completely forgotten about the whole 2k3 business. Instead they decided to focus on a ****ty B-Movie-esque (a bad B-Movie, I might add) campaign and make it look like a Gears of War ripoff.

I mean for crying out loud, where are the colors? What's with all the bloom? What is wrong with these people? UT was only second in popularity to Quake 3, but in terms of gameplay it was far, far better. Why did they need to cater to console kids when you've got tons of PC fans waiting for a new UT game? It's like somebody ate their brains or something. Throw away the crappy single player story, add a proper interface, maybe 2-3 new game modes, some extra maps and you've got the next big fragfest! But no, they had to screw the whole thing up. Such a shame, such a shame.

Will the Steam version (GOTY) work online with your originals? If so, I'll give it a go, played it for a bit on Steam in single player and thought it was pretty awesome. Love the smack talk the bots give each other lol.
