The question is: how does the 2 GB gt555m perform?

The 1 GB DDR5 version offers a huge boost in bandwidth over the DDR3 version in the Sager.

Nope. And that's because the GDDR5 version has its bus width cut from 192-bit to 128-bit. The GDDR3 version has a 192-bit bus width. It also has the advantage of having 144 CUDA Cores over 96. The GDDR5 version is faster but only by an extremely small margin, costs more to manufacture, and has a higher TDP.

Let's put it in simpler terms: The GT 555M DDR3 is 40% faster overall than the GT 540M. I made a post about this a while ago. You can find it here.

The TDP is also only 3W higher, not to mention it also supports Optimus so you still get the same 4 hours of battery life. Given that, I find the NP5165 is easily a better choice since you get a lot more graphics performance for a moderate increase in price.

The information I've found shows the gt555m with dismal memory bandwidth.

I'm super excited for this chip though.

That's one of the versions. There's many configurations for it. The DDR3 version I'm talking about, the one in the NP5165, has a 192-bit width bus and 144 CUDA Cores. Again, 40% faster than the GT 540M overall.

Also, you might want to know, that particular version of the chip is very rare and I've yet to see it on any laptop. Both Sager and Dell are using the DDR3 192-bit version.
