Stop hating on crysis! You're reinforcing the people-with-bad-hardware-hate-crysis stereotype!

Crysis2 MP was the only good thing they made, other than that it really was a crap game. Another alien story line that's been done since Duke Nukem.

I dunno what it is about this game, but it just doesn't appeal to me at all.

Oh, and I forgot the graphics. Graphics did sell Crysis as it was the best part of the game.

Though look at the idea of FPS, the game style hasn't changed much since the originals. The "weapon" ranking system that most follow was created back in the Duke/Doom days. The only exception is the new popularity of two things, consoles and military style games.

Then we have the physical abilities you have in an FPS. You can run, walk, sprint, crouch, shoot/reload, interact (simple interaction), and what else? I'm trying to think, what else are the main key components of an FPS? Oh that's right, I just covered them all. This hasn't changed in what, years. YEARS!

The base game style and play of an FPS hasn't changed but that is what defines it as the FPS. You have the FPS/RPG but that is a new addition, with things like Fallout3 and Mass Effect 2. So when you say it's dry, or it's generic, you really should look beyond the graphics and effects of a game and literally take it down to the core components. How you interact and "play" the game. Weapon upgrades, powers/abilities, those are all generally very new. A lot of games now do some twist and try to give the FPS some unique quality. [edit] While this is true, I have yet to see any major change to the style.

Crysis has the suit, which I'll classify under "special powers". Though that's been in games since Quake1 with Quad damage, invisibility, special armor (red), and so on. A concept that initially you had to "find" but they decided to give it a recharge (still not new) and start you off with it (semi-new). [edit] Which that was also taken straight from the Halo shield and I'm sure that idea wasn't original either. Nothing is "new", it's just a polished idea.

See, I've played games long enough that it all feels the same. You start to recognize that a lot of games are still just taking old ideas and polishing them up, which is nice but still gives you the same gameplay (more or less). I will admit Fallout3 was amazing but it wasn't quite a pure FPS. Mass Effect was nice but it still takes from the original team based military shooters. It's been done, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and.....

Idk, just when I see "generic" it makes me wonder how long you've actually played video games. I'm pretty sure we grab an old console and find very old games that play eerily similar to what's "new" today.

Hmmm don't see anything really new here. If you're old enough and played enough of these type of shooters it all becomes a bit samey after a while. I can see how it would appeal though. I've played this kind of stuff to death though.
