AMD Athlon II x4 640 Overclocking

Hey guys, I'm new to the forums and pretty much brand new to overclocking as well. I was just wondering if someone could help me understand overclocking my AMD processor. I have an AMD Athlon II x4 640, runs at 3.0 ghz stock. I see people saying they are getting it up to 3.6 ghz, and was wondering how this is possible and if so what are methods to do so? I'm currently using the nVidia control panel to do what little overclocking I do. My motherboard is the ASUS M2N-SLI. I appreciate ANY help anyone can give me. Thanks in advance!

Being new to oc'ing I suggest you read this guide first http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ocket-am2.htmltoo get an idea of what is involved.

But to be honest your m2n-sli is a poor oc'ing board,it has no cpu voltage adjustment, ram voltage is 1.95v max, among other things.

Your best bet would be to reset the bios to defaults(F5 while in bios),that will put everything on auto, then you can use the AI overclock of 10%.

That will only put you at 3.3,but that is about the best you can hope for on that board.

Sorry for the bad news

Good luck

I had that same chip and I was only able to get 3.3 out of it stable. Since you don't have a good board for over clocking I would do what Gyro says and do a 10% OC and leave it there. You don't want to damage the board or worse. Good luck

Ah! Okay Gyro, that would make sense, I was wondering if it was my motherboard. Because my HT multiplier only goes to 5x while a computer in the same house goes to 15x, i didnt know if it was mobo related. I tried the 3.3 overclock through the nvidia control panel (i usually only run 3.1 in fear I might blow something up going higher) and it seems to be running pretty stable. Thanks for clearing some stuff up.
