Can you make this cheaper? - Page 2

I am biased towards Intel because I went from a athlon X2 3600+ to a core 2 quad q6600. Even trying to look past that, in most reviews I have read the AMD processors seem to only hold the advantage in price, lacking in power compared to the Intel chips.

Is the difference in speed significant for equally clocked CPUs of the two brands?

side note: I'm not upgrading, I'm building it for a friend, my builds got a few years left.

I brought it down to $475 by changing the graphics card to the HD5770 and using the combo deal for the CPU and Mobo. I think the PSU is a good deal for now, I don't really see a difference in price for any wattage differences between 400 and 650.

Optical drives are cheap as hell, get a new SATA drive.
For the HDD however, if the adapters aren't good enough for ya (who likes having a HDD sitting on their desk anyway?) you could always use an enclosure.

I personally own this one & it's worked fabulously for me:

I also believe some of the 1366 boards from ASUS have an IDE connector to it. But, you really don't want to use those anymore, keep it to legacy devices you can't replace (like HDDs with loads of pics/videos etc).
