Well since it actually has a flat plate on the bottom and it's not direct heatpipe contact I'd say the best way is to make an "X" in the middle of the CPU and then put the cooler on. It will end up covering most of the CPU and there won't be any air bubbles. Using the spread method is bad because you'll get alot of air bubbles when you place the cooler on top and air bubbles=less heat transfer. You don't need it to cover 100% of the CPU because most of the temps come from the center anyway. So I say "X" method.

Heres some methods with results.

Ok x it is-but no matter what-if you do not tint the heat sink-it will never be the best contact, becuz of the ruffness of the heat sink-as it spreds out it still wont fully fill all the micro holes-dips so on, plus-too much tim is also bad and can result in high temps.

Doesn't matter for me. My temps are waaaaaayyy below 50C socket temp on most loads
For your setup you may have a really bad heatsink mount, I would say that is hot on even a thermaltake frio

Just remounted the frio using the thermaltake supplied TIM. Temps did go down alittle, nothing crazy though. Getting about 64c on 30min large fft prime run and about 61c on 30min blend prime run. These are socket temps. The frio was mounted both times before with mx-4

i use hwmonitor... but my 1100T and all x6 if i am not mistaken have faulty sensors so you have to go by the socket temperature

for intel... RealTemp

To prevent damage You either need a better cooler or a lower overclock to drop the temp's. You've got a decent overclock and your voltage looks good but this cooler isn't beefy enough to keep it cool.
The only shutdown function is on the motherboard and that is normally set to 90c by default.

Watch out for that LLC, too. On my Formula, at my current clock, I have it set at 1.43 vcore. At 0% LLC, it'll droop down to 1.38 and blue screen. At 50%, it'll stay at 1.43 constantly. At 100%/full, it'll jump to 1.49 as soon as there's any load, and my temps will skyrocket. This is all according to CPU-Z and HWMonitor... I don't know if it's reading it wrong but I wouldn't really recommend using more than 50% LLC on a Crosshair. My old mobo (M4A88TD-V PRO) did the same thing, but there's just on and off...

Just an update. Apparently my chip is just alittle hotter than average, which I am ok with since it clocks fine. I recently mounted a few different coolers to it including antec's new 920 sealed-loop water system with no real decrease in temps. Either way my RASA240 kit is in the mail, that should take care of it

For the record my 1100t has been in the 70's

AMD's 62c is def conservative, but I'm also sure it starts degrading at that point. Shouldn't die.. just.. start getting older fast.

@ 4ghz on many hour's of LinX testing 6000 memory I don't go above 50c since the Noctua NH-D14. I would have to stop that test in minutes on my old POS Tuniq Propellor.
