What are you trying to do with these headphones? Game, Listen to music? What kind of music do you listen to? How much bass do you want in them?

I would try to find used Denon D2000s or DT770 Pro 80ohms. You should be able to find those for under 2000.

If you're into metal you should look at the Grado 225is.

IMO, even if you were looking for something like the M50s, you could find better for your budget. Even Ultrasone Pro 550s would be a better choice and those can be had for 152.
Would you mind linking me to that sound card I cannot find it on newegg or amazon.

For the headphones I would like a more closed ear design, I don't want others to hear everything that I am listening to so I can go in public and still have great audio (This does mean they need to be low power for my phone, Atrix 4G, to power them.). I want them to have a grunty base for shooters but I love music from John lennon types and all the new music. I dab in artists from Cee Loo Green to Katy Perry, more so good all around headphones but great in highs and rock type musics. I liked the M50s because they supposedly sound great, pretty cheap, and look good and are built great. I will look into your suggestions.

Would I need something like this for my Atrix to power the DT770 80 ohm or will my atrix have plenty of power.

Also is there a "newegg" or audio?

He's not referring to a sound card, its a DAC. I think they can only be readily bought on ebay atm.

Difference from sound card? Just external?

Let me first say that I am no sound guru, I'm just getting into the audiophile world so don't take my advice to heart until you hear back from other, more knowledgeable people- like Simca.

A sound card is a DAC, but the external (musiland) DAC will get you better sound quality for your money.

From my understanding, external DACs are usually better for music. While, sound cards trump them for gaming, mostly because of positioning.

So that looks like the way to go in terms of sound for my music. Now the headphones is left up in the air.

I love the look of the DT770 but cannot find them in stock.

Key Points
-Good for gaming and music. Low grunty bass for blasts and etc.
-Main focus is music great highs. (John Lennon, Katy Perry, Cee Loo, Lady Antebellum, Adele, Tinie Tempah, but I also like country and rock. Mainly focused on the first group)
-Closed sound, low sound pollution.
-Nice design
-Ability to be powered off my Atrix with good quality.

ARGH Sorry I want to learn so much and need help. x]

This any good and do I need it for the DT770 80 ohms to be driven by my phone.

Fiio E7 might be worth looking at, USB DAC + portable amp and pretty damn cheap. Should easily drive the ATH-M50s.

Yeah, since you have to use them on your phone, get the Ultrasone Pro 550s. Get the Musiland Monitor 02 DAC from ebay for home usage. You'll be happy with those I think.

Or for 5 dollars more you can purchase it from a very reputable seller rather than this no name seller. Up to you. With PayPal you're safe though.

Are the DT770s better then the Ultrasone Pro 550s?

Depends on usage. The DT770s also require amping whereas the 550s are fine without it.

Voices will be better on the DT770s. Bass will be better on the 550s.
