So seems like 2GB VRAM really does help in non uber resolution as well.

I game at 16x10 and was dead set on either 6950 1GB or GTX 560 Ti 1GB. But I just had a thought on the future of 1GB VRAM and that got me researching. And then I found this...

The 2GB 6950 seems to have a huge min FPS advantage over it's 1GB version and GTX 560. Even GTX 470 outdoes them in minimum FPS. Interesting no?

I mean most websites dont mention min FPS which hides the difference between 1GB and 2GB because if we ignore the min FPS then the difference is quite negligible. But as far as I am concerned min FPS is very important, it ensures the "smoothness" of the game. But I am very surprised to find this sort of a difference at 16x10 and metro isnt even running on max settings.

I couldnt find a crysis bench with min FPS for these cards but there is something here,

Here we can see big difference in both min and average at just 19x12.

So what's the verdict, what is the future of a 1GB card do you think? And how much do you think is a justified price difference between 1GB and 2GB models?

And dont you think hardware reviews SHOULD include min FPS?

I agree. And 2GB cards definitely seem like the way to go.

Video ram is really a LOT faster than any main memory the GPU may borrow to make up for shortfalls. More GPU memory is ALWAYS better.

Yeah great, because that 2 FPS gain on a single monitor setup is totally worth it. [/irony]

No seriously, with a single monitor no one will ever need more than 1 GB of RAM until Microsoft and Sony come up with a new generation of consoles, and even then a critical raise of RAM demands is unexpected because most people will still use a FullHD TV for their consoles. I'm not even talking against the generous RAM sizes on AMD cards right now. I'm just saying that unless you use Eyefinity there's simply no need for it in the next few years.

You clearly didnt read the thread, I was not even talking about the average FPS.

See it again and tell me that a 22FPS and 28FPS min FPS are "no different"....

I stand corrected. However I still don't see how minimum FPS in the high twenties are anywhere near enjoyable.

I disagree, I've run games with high res texture packs and maxed out my vram.

The next generation video cards we will see with higher amounts of vram, no doubt.

That's the way the game is man and I find it more enjoyable with those dips here and there rather than lowering settings.

And that wasnt even the point anyways, if 28 min FPS makes you lower settings then imagine how much you will have to on the 1GB to make it smooth.....that's the point.
