Punkbuster Problem on BFBC2 - Page 6

wc002269 can be downloaded at the bc2 page on punkbuster but i firmly believe falsely renaming the older version to the new one will result in a PB ban later on. they have strict rules on modifying punkbuster files. if server catches you using a pb file that doesnt match it will permanently ban you for hacking and deliberately tampering the punkbuster files. if you read their ToS it strictly says modifying key punkbuster files will result in a permanent ban. for such a steep risk i would rather wait until tomorrow (it's already mid night here in the us) for them to fix it

Fair enough- I didn't know that. Technically it's not "modifying" so much as creating one that doesn't exist for manual download yet from evenbalancing. BUT- to your defense- I'm pretty sure with PB's record of ban hammers that they wouldn't think twice lol All automated anyway.

Before doing this though I was kicked about every 5 minutes in a game. I did finally get kicked trying to update PB again but this time it went from 5 min to 1+ hour. So... not a perm fix =(

may not be technically modified but punkbuster doesn't know that and most likely checks its crc32 and if it doesnt match it considers it modified

i did a packet sniff on the punkbuster program and it's trying to download this file:
Code:
http://webfile.evenbalance.com/downloads/bc2/mc002272.htm.zip
which doesn't exist so it tries
Code:
http://webfile2.evenbalance.com/downloads/bc2/mc002272.htm.zip
and that doesn't exist either

so pbsetup continually attempts to download that file and since it doesnt exist you get a blank .tmp file. they simply forgot to upload the file to the punkbuster file server. i'm sure it will be back up tomorrow

Le Sigh. I guess it's Left 4 Dead time. I just got done playing wow for a few hours, did my dailies and was going to play some BC2 frown.gif. I seriously dislike PB. PB has made it where you can't play Crysis or Crysis Wars online anymore without being booted since Crytek let their contract lapse.

One thing I do notice I always have to do, is update manually because the auto update in game never works. in BC2

Exactly =) My thinking at first was that it is trying to download 2272, can't because it doesn't exist (tmp does confirm), but that it was really looking for the 2269 that was updated. So my first guess that we have the right file- 2269- and the server has a different version it considers to be "newest"- 2272- didn't match... is superseded by the hard fact that they probably did in fact update to 2272 and just don't have the files up yet. There is a different game with the current version available to download of 2271 however it's very unlikely we could just take 2271 and adjust it slightly given that it is for a different title.

Either way, thanks for the digging mate.
