5970 getting crazy when disabling one core

Thread Starter
well... i'll make it quick because I asked it here before, but I wanna check it out \\:
Everytime I disable one core in my 5970 via the CCC, the screen getting crazy and become black and not coming back, even after restart, until I unistall the driver...

that's weird, and happening everytime, no matter what. I SHOULD disable one core, so it's bugging me.

My driver is the new 11.4 (the final one).
I tried to reinstall, tried to install prev' ones, even format my computer (tought maybe it's windows problem? I had to format anyway), nothing helps.

Do anyone else getting this problem with the 5970?
Am I the only one? if so, what could it be and how to fix it?
Thanks.

Why on earth would you disable one GPU on that?

Because some games are STILL doesn't works well with CrossFire...
(If you meant the disabling via the CCC, then how else should I...?)

Just so you know, you can't physically disable a Core on the HD5970, you can't do that on any dual card (Such as the HD5970, HD6990, GTX590...).

You can't disable it, it will make the Core stop working it's still enabled, thus making compatibility issues.

Keep it on, what games are you having problems with?

Just so you know.....your wrong

In the case of the 5970 you can set Catalyst A.I to disabled and this will stop the second core working.

To find Catalyst A.I in CCC,click on prefferences and change the view to Advanced, then go to gaming tab, then go to 3D application settings and you should then have the option to turn of Catalyst A.I.

Also with the GTX295(dual pcb also) you can disable SLI in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

Cant speak for the GTX590.

I said that already.

You can virtually disable one Core, but technically it is still Enabled.

It's not like disabling CrossfireX from x2 HD5870's for example, you can't do that on the HD5970.

Oh, and I've had an HD5970 before.

You didnt, look above our posts here to see what you have said.
You didnt say anything about how to disable AI,nor did you say how to disable 2nd core on a GTX295.

You said you cant disbale a core on ANY dual pcb card, thats wrong.

Leave both cores on?, I don't see why you would bother disable it.

Or a wild guess would be, your disabling the core thats rendering 2d (desktop) therfore your getting a black screen after the disable, but as i don't have that card, its a guess, and thats it.

But I'm not wrong, you can't physically disable it in any dual card, sure you can tell it not to work, but it is still enabled.

And that happens at least in the HD5970 and HD6990, you can't disable the Cores technically.
