Apple makes some very elegant and well designed hardware even if it is overpriced for some. No shame in owning an apple. I bought my first one when they switched to intel. I now have a 17" MBP that is awesome. 8 hrs battery life, less than an inch thick, 1920x1200 resolution, robust body (it has had a fair share of falls and an airport incident). I replaced the HDD with a SSD and saved a good chunk of change by doing it myself. I would highly recommend their laptops. I am not really a fan of the iMac or mac pro lines. For a desktop just buy (or build) a PC.

Think if it really is worth ~$200 premium for looks alone. If the answer is yes, go ahead and get the MacBook Pro, but don't get the cinema display, look at Dells IPS displays under the Ultrasharp name.

Honestly, I think that Apple computers are ugly... But each has their own taste..

Let me start by saying, I don't know anyone who actually owns a Mac and prides themselves on it. I've used a MacBook before, in art class. Very small lower end. Uses it for Photoshop mainly. It made things easier though, here and there. Not in every way. I'm thinking of going with a laptop, and buying a monitor. But will the performance still be stellar? I'm not gaming, but I am going to be editing video. Will the lower RAM/CPU really take a toll on it? In terms of both on the laptop itself, and when using it on a larger display? I'm not planning to game or anything else on it. This will just be for art purposes. You can do it yourself switch HDs? If so I'll easily get a smaller HD, saves more than $100. And by all means, I'm not meaning to troll. I hate how Apple runs their stuff, but I've had experience on a MacBook before and it made what I'm trying to do a lot easier. Thus why I'm looking more into it.

I don`t fully understand. You want to edit videos. And therefore you need a MAC? You got a 2600k which has enough CPU power (which is needed for encoding) and want to buy a MAC with ??? hardware inside.
Of course the slower/less RAM and the slower CPU will decrease your workflow and fun. Do your editing on you 2600k system and if you really need a MAC-book-thing use it to show the vids or anything but not for the editing itself. Also high CPU load causes heat which causes destroyed hardware part.
I know that cause i killed a laptop with rendering. So watch you step!
You don`t want to fry that expensive thing.

And not everyone here @OCN hates MAC. I have other things to do than hate MAC. (OK i hate OSX but only from Monday to Sunday )
BTW MAC is Media Access Control so why hate that?

Apple is all about their good marketing and the way they easily fool people to buy Macs... That's all. A Mac will NEVER be better then a same price range Pc... NEVER. So yea... that's my opinion and pretty much everyone's opinion on OCN.

If you want to buy a Mac and you have questions I could help.
Apple sells the sizzle, not the steak!

Wrong-O. I do not have that PC in my sig, unfortunately. That is what I was looking to build, but I had a lot of people suggest(also here on OCN) that I wait until Bulldozer and Ivy bridge are out. So here I am waiting, and in the meantime, selling my current PC(crap) for a MAC until new CPUs are out.
