few questions about ASUS MIVE / 2600K / CORSAIR XMS3 8gb

Thread Starter
i just recently got these settings up and running and have few questions so hopefully some of the owners with same mobo or ram can help me here.

sorry for some newbie questions in advance...

1) bios.

if i flash it to latest bios, is updates inclusive all previous updates or do i have to flash every single bios updates?

2) ram timing.

this is the ram i got (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145325). obviously it's rated at 9-10-9-27-2T and currently i've got it running it @ XMP setting which automatically adjust it to 1866mhz. i tried bump it up to 2133mhz for the xmp profile but didn't work so i am wondering if anyone out there running this ram @ 2133 and can share their timing @ 2133mhz. seen couple people OC to 2133mhz but couldn't find the exact timing.

3) 2600k.

so far i tried from 4.6ghz to 5.4ghz on corsair H70 cpu cooler (my NH-D14 had higher temp than H70 which was vice versa on my x58 setup. werrrrd...)

i managed 4.8ghz stable under 100 runs of both linX and IBT at 2048mb stress level. 5.0ghz is also somewhat stable but i had to give little higher vcore than my liking...
is there any specific tips to tweak this board? compared to conventional blue screen bios setting, UEFI bios offers just tons of amount of adjusting ability and i'm overwhelmed to be honest.

4.6ghz @ 1.260 vcore with 2x8GB of xms3 running at 9-10-9-27-2T (stable)
4.8ghz @ 1.380 vcore with 2x8GB of xms3 running at 9-10-9-27-2T (stable)
5.2ghz @ 1.500 vcore with 2x8GB of xms3 running at 9-10-9-27-2T (unstable, need more cooling)
5.4ghz @ 1.600 vcore with 2x8GB of xms3 running at 9-10-9-27-2T (unstable, need more cooling)

4) cpu-z

my cpu-z shows about .02 higher on vcore almost all the time compared to where i set at. is it typical?

5) ASUS Maximus IV Extreme (MIVE)

i bought the board used from very reputable forum member and he said it is B3 stepping board but i don't know how to check B3 stepping as there is no mention of it on the board itself. under cpu-z motherboard section, it says rev B2 under south bridge. so does it mean i have rev2 board or is south bridge something other different than board stepping?

this is screenshot of mainboard on latest version of cpu-z
so does it mean it is B2 stepping not B3?

Who is this "reputable forum member?"
Where was the sale thread? If he advertised a B3, please report him for scamming so he can get banned/blacklisted. Which forum was this?

You got scammed. The board is a B2 stepping. CPUZ identifies it correctly. And look at the BIOS date! B3 boards didn't come out until March. The newest compatible B3 BIOS is no older than March.

Owch that sucks man.. You should always check for validation before buying. Some actual proof. Be it with skype, or some video.

Due to intel's screwup with 1155, you shouldn't buy any SB board used.

It's no big really as long as you can live without your intel SIII 6Gbps ports. Your Marvel controllers should be fine though alongside your SII controllers.

i thought it was the otherway around. don't they have problem with sata II not sata III?

anywyas, i will still leave the seller's name anonymous yet. if he voluntarily resolve the situation, i have no real issue with him. it's not too late to burst his ID and heatware if he decided not to cooperate...

so i finally spoke to the seller and he said he got it from asus rma as far as he knows and reason for rma was exactly that sata controller issue. is there any case that people rma B2 stepping board and didn't get a NEW B3 stepping board? he said board should be fixed and flashed but i would think that if it is something that can be fixed or flashed, i don't think entire P67 board would've been recalled...

Either he is lying, or they sent him back a b2 board, he is most likely lying. All b3 boards were shipped with later bios', to avoid confusion.

I would say just set up an rma yourself with asus, and send the board back to them for a b3. Then charge the guy you bought it from for the shipping to asus. If he doesn't comply to that, report it to a moderator immediately.

Do what behemoth says.
The seller is just a lying scammer who pulled a fast one on you. He claimed it was an RMA from asus, but in fact, he simply sent you his bad board, with a lie on the internet. Never buy a SB board used, and without any sort of paypal protection or anything
