Fan Beneath Motherboard does it work?

Thread Starter
YOO!! Everyone, I'm kind of new to all this so I have a question. I Just added a fan under my motherboard and directly under where the CPU is at. I noticed my temperatures drop 6 degrees, however i was wondering if the temp reading was correct (readings came from AMD OverDrive), or if the air hitting the bottom of the motherboard is just disturbing a thermistor, but then again idk where the thermistor is at or if it even has one lol. (I have an Antec Skeleton, so I'm able to place a fan directly under the motherboard, since it has two racks one for the motherboard and one beneath it for other components)
-Thanks in advance

Adding a fan to mine took load temps down 4C without any changes topside, but I don't know where my sensor is either. I think all modern cases should at least have vents behind the motherboard, it's an evil heat trap. In a nutshell, it does work, and it seems to help.

I thought I'd had a good idea 1st. But, it seems you did it before I could. After my cpu loop is completed, I'm going to drop one of the Silverstone AP180's under the backplate access on my Lian Li T60.

Before you ask, why that fan? Because it's perfectly sized for the hole...

InB4ThatsWutSheSaid

To answer previous questions, yes, your pcb holds in alot of heat. As to the effectiveness, I'll report back when I'm finished with my new build.

Yea idk, Not when its idling though, only when I'm stress testing it with prime or AMD Overdrive do I see the temperature drops. It idles at the same temp 23C. IDK if that makes a difference though to the truthfulness of the readings.

Crazy that this topic should pop up again. I just posted my updated testing of this (I had less than positive results).

Well, after reading this:
http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling...-update-2.html

I guess it DOES actually make a difference (on load, not idling) . Although with an efficient aftermarket cooler there is no point..

Niiice... I guess it does help out somewhat and its not just a bad temp reading, thanks yoooo!!!
I was beginning to think i was gonna overkill my CPU with the temps i was reaching while running prime, if the reading weren't truthful.
