i mean, if his electricity is free then it's a much easier decision
but almost 2x power consumption for 10-15k more ppd it's not nearly as efficient as 2600k.... it'd also cost a bit more for the 970 rig since you need triple channel ram.. and a better cooling solution compared to a 2600k where you can throw on an h50 and hit ~4.6ghz.... an h50 on a 970 will probably be maxed out temp-wise at ~4ghz.. you'd need water cooling to fold at 4.2-4.4ghz...
so once you get down to the details, all things considered, the 2600k is currently the best choice for a dedicated folding rigEdited by koven - 5/5/11 at 10:34pm
