get a good 650w because it looks like you overclock XP
post #5 of 19
750 is overkill. Go for the seasonic 520w plenty for your rig or go for the 620w version for crossfire in the future.

If you had to pick one of the two, get the Antec. I can't really say I trust Ultra for power supplies. Price for the Antec seems nice in my opinion too.

And 750 is more than you will need. Take a look in my sig. I have much higher power consumption parts on a 650 watt. -gasp-

Take a look into a quality 550 watt unit from Seasonic or Antec. It will serve you well.

Yeah, get one with 4xPCI-e connectors in case you intend to Crossfire (which would have to make the PSU go 650W+ unfortunately)
If not, a decent 450-500W should be more than plenty.

Seasonic, Antec, XFX or Corsair.

Core i5-2500k and HD 6850 are both pretty low on power consumption, lower than you might expect. At stock, this is the power draw:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu..._10.html#sect0
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...0_9.html#sect0

Even with some pretty hard overclocks making everything draw 50% more than stock, you're looking at under 500W for a whole system if you Crossfire HD 6850s. Seeing as real-world power draw is under LinX + OCCT load, you don't even need a 620W if you want to Crossfire later, even though that's not a bad idea.

If on a budget, I'd take the Antec Earthwatts Green 500D for $50 after promo code:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371035

Something a little better would be the XFX Core Edition 550W (Seasonic S12II Bronze 520/620 internals) for $70 before $10 MIR:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817207013

If you want to spend up to $90, that's how much the XFX Core Edition 650W and Corsair TX650 V2 cost before rebate. Both those units are Seasonic SS-***AT internally--very good quality. That kind of unit will run something like Crossfire HD 6950 easily.
