Not mmo genre, its team based 5v5. Each game lasts anywhere from 25 to over 60 mins depending on the players. This is true in DotA, anyway.

Anyone who thinks IceFrog created the genre or popularized MOBAs hasn't played dota long enough. Back in v5.84c (the last version Guinsoo made), the game was EXTREMELY popular. It was a lot more chill back then, and there were a lot less ragers, the competitive scene wasn't as big, etc., but don't think that it's because of IceFrog that MOBA is huge, he took a large community which was waiting for updates (dota was at 5.84c for about a year), and gave them what they wanted, him making the game didn't make more players start playing or popularize it in anyway imo.

One of my friends who plays LoL a LOT and also played dota, hon, says that the big downside to LoL is that the client is poorly written in terms of delay, with the same ping in hon, his commands are registered 2-3 times faster.

Personally, I can't take the fact that LoL requires you to either buy the heroes or play x boring hero a million times to unlock other ones. I've played it, I hated it, but I am willing to give it another try.

Hmm, I have owned this game for a long time but haven't yet played it. If anyone wants to play a few non-rage, learning type games let me know and I'll install it!

LoL, while it has ranked, is much better as a more casual friendly game, although with a longer time sink if you're unwilling to drop real money into the game. I started out playing DotA, moved to HoN, played LoL for over a year and now I brought a majority of my friends to HoN.

LoL is a great game, I just find it very unbalanced (rune system! joke.), and the skill sets very unimaginative (I understand it's to allow newcomers, however) , not the best game (gaining popularity, however.) if you're really trying to compete. It's far too easy, although I do enjoy how feeders give less money the more they are killed. I would suggest giving HoN a chance, starting with LoL just dumbs you down far too much. I like all the competition between the MOBA's.

It's a great genre and I'm personally glad to see it gaining in popularity with many other versions and their own styles being released. Unfortunately with dota 2 on the horizon I see HoN shrinking even further, but LoL staying somewhat the same in terms of players considering the idea and character designs are far more original ( but god damn boring).

tl;dr: Give the MOBA genre a chance, the replay value is amazing, the community is full of dumb asses.
I have been playing HoN sense closed beta and have just over 1,000 hours of game time and so fare not getting tired of it, there may not be as many hero's as Dota but there is still enough to keep you going and recently (as of patch 2.0) S2 has been keeping to there word and making new hero's every 2 weeks or so. The best part is balancing them for the meta game which is nice

On the community side Yes, HoN is know to be total (insert term hear) but on that same note I have meet some really nice people that I have been playing with for a very good amount of time now and some of these people can total beat me down and the others ones are there for the poop and giggles of it.

tl;dr: Try it out ignore the haters, find some friends and have a blast.

forgot to add username if you wish to not totally go at this alone add me up I am no pro or anything but cant help a little bit.

Well by "essentially created the genre" I meant the vast majority of people associate DotA with IceFrog, not Pendragon or Guinsoo. DotA is the original game so most people, I assume, would give him credit for the genre. Thats just opinion though. I've been playing the game since 2006 or 2007 btw.

Edit - Forgot to mention that actual scrims are usually very well mannered, its the pub games that you'll find a lot of ragers etc.

I don't think anyone here even stated DotA was made by icefrog. Everyone who appreciates DotA appreciates he took the reigns to continue on.

The problem that I have with LoL is that it's too easy and there's not much depth to it compared to Dota or HoN. HoN just has so much depth to it, it feels like it could take years to get really good at it where as LoL is very simple.

False. There's no in-game items that require real money that give you an edge. $$ is only for champs and skins....get your facts straight

Even then you can buy champs with ingame currency that you earn yourself.
