In the USA you can pull a fire arm on someone if they enter your home can you not? Where as in Canada, I'm fairly sure you can't pull a firearm unless it's self defense even if they broke into your home.
however, if you shoot someone who breaks into your house... you better kill them, otherwise you can still end up getting sued in some states.

This. Integrity: doing the right thing, legally and morally. I live by this. It reminds me of the South Carolina's "No Chase Policy" for police. Look it up. It is better known as the Castration of law enforcement, similar policies are castrating our military too. Pretty soon the bystandard effect will run the counrty.

In your home yes. But BestBuy is a public place. If we have confirmed someone is stealing, I'll get as many cameras as I can on him, get cameras ready on the exit, and then go and get his license plate. Basically make him think he got away with it, then we call up the cops, give him all the information and they usually have them within a hour or two.

It's no security. I work it. It's more of a scare tactic.

its your house, do it to it, just remember, you get a guest that you invited in that trips in your gauntlet and loses an appendage and you are going to be in hot water

If you're at your job, you're there to do your job. If security guard is not part of your job description, then you should not be involved with stopping a thief or breaking up a fight.
You're not a fire fighter, would you extinguish someone on fire or sit there like it isn't your responsibility?
