Agreed, the question is at which point does our sense of moral outrage outweigh your logic center and sense of self preservation. Different for all of us, apparently this dude was big on halting laptop theft.

hey if you want to be a superhero/vigilante... go for it. If you get shot/stabbed/beat up... not my problem.

The policy is to let them go, get as much information as possible and call the police so instances like this don't happen where you can get sued(not just by the thief, but by any innocent bystander who gets hurt, or even the employees themselves) over a couple hundred dollar laptop. He should not be rewarded, it wasn't his stuff to defend. He was told by the owners of the stuff who's property he was on not to do what he did and he did it anyway.

It's not a "doing the right thing" issue, it's a "doing your job" issue. There is a reason that rule is in place, and that is because it isn't worth the trouble just because you want to be some kind of hero over some dumb laptops, and put everyone else at risk.

Ok, so let's take this one step further. "What if" the employee was a ninja? Some kind of super-secret stealth ops bin Laden hunting living weapon? We can deal in "what ifs" all day long, my point is that America has become this sissy, passified country where murderers and thieves and rapists get off the hook all the time.

Slaps on the wrist. It's also why we have people standing by while others are being assaulted, stolen from, raped, or killed right in front of them. "Well 'what if' I get hurt?" they ask. The question instead should be "What if I didn't help?"

I couldn't think of the right words, but you've said it perfectly.

As Sohryu76 said. Then again, if you did help and assault them, you'd be in the same position as them once you were charged so..

If it were up to be, we'd still do public stoning for rapists and such.

Think about it, pay $5 or $10 for a stone and make it a public event. All the money goes towards the national debt. Cleans up jail systems so they require less money.

Win win!

So sad that in todays world a righteous person who tries to stop a scumbag thief gets shafted due to corporate BS.

I think they made the right decision. It is against the law for civilians to forcibly apprehend people. I think it is an excellent law. The guy should be charged with assault.

there is no law on the book that says that. Technically... even Police are civilians unless they are active or reserve military.
