I wish Steam had a category called "Kids", most of the "Family" games aren't even really kids games.
Puzzle kingdoms is a pretty good one. Its a match 3+ blocks game except its got a story to it. Another good one is Elf Bowling. Both kid friendly games, my 4 yr. old loves em.

Crayon Physics Deluxe is a great game although I'm not sure if it's sold on Steam or not.
My 7 year old nephew loves Call of Duty and CSS, if that helps?
Your nephew shouldnt be playing those games. Its inappropriate for his age group.

Too complicated for a 5 year old. Well maybe not too complicated, just too slow paced. They will say its boring.

Some video games are ok, just not too much.

All of you guys suggesting Amnesia or Dead Space thinkin you're funny, aren't. A five year old would get so bored with those games.
And why would you wanna scare the hell out of a five year old? The hell is wrong with you people? If someone tries to scare my kids like that, they got an ass-whoopin comin.
