Windows startup memory

Thread Starter
How much ram does window seven use up right after startu. The reason i am asking is because i currently have 6g of ram and i am running out of ram using 4+ gb while starcraft 2 is running I run sc2 on the highest settings and based on my build in my sig is this normal?

for me windows usually uses up 1.6 gb at startup and i disabled all of my applications to start at startup other then my antivirus

I'm folding, running an AV, Steam and Foobar2000 and I'm using up 1.52GB.

You might want to monitor what processes are using up all of that RAM. On startup I usually have 38 with Avast.

It can vary from user to user.

For example, I have streamlined my installation of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 to the point where it's using approximately 650 MB after a fresh boot (32 processes according to Task Manager's status bar, sometimes 30 or 31).

However, I would never expect 1.6 GB after a fresh boot. How many Processes does Task Manager say are running after a fresh boot? The number is in its Status Bar.

SC2 doesn't use more than 2GB.... What else is eatting up your memory?

Use Resource Monitor to look at memory usage by process id.
Once again...

If you have 6GB of RAM, and 4GB is being used, how are you "running out" of RAM?

It's probably superfetch. Regardless, if you're worried about not seeing a lot of "free" RAM, don't. "Free" RAM is wasted RAM, and windows 7 will quickly and efficiently dump RAM allocated to superfetch for programs in real-time that need the RAM.
