Looking for a closed headset

Thread Starter
Hi everyone , first post on overclock.net ; but each time i'm looking for good advices i go here wink.gif
However i didn't quite find the perfect headset for me.

I currently own a Seinnheiser HD 555 , the sound is perfect but the only problem is that a share a room with someone who speaks constantly with his mic and it's driving me insane( he's just behind me , i can touch him without leaving my chair).

So i'm looking for a headset with a good noise isolation so that i can't hear him and maybe a little more bass than the HD 555.
For the moment i'm thinking about the ATH m50 or the ATH a 700.
I can spend 150 $ on it , so what do you guys think i should buy ?
Thank you a lot for all you answers and sorry for my english smile.gif

I would go with the logitech G930. Before I got this headset, I too had the HD555 and no, the noise canceling isn't great with the HD555. So I feel for you there. The G930s do cancel more noise and do have better bass. Would be even better if it had an amp but nontheless will have more bass without it. Great headset too for games. Its wireless and has surround sound :]

I just bought a pair of the AD700s (should deliver today), but when I researched around, I also seriously considered comparable closed-headphones like the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-A700-Audio-Technica-Headphones/dp/B000E9VKUQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1304702188&sr=1-1"]ATH A700[/ame] and the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/AKG-172-HD-High-Definition-Headphones/dp/B0028N78IE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1304702104&sr=1-1"]AKG K172HD[/ame]. Both I'm told are very nice!

Hope that helps!

But what about the ath-m50 versus the Ath-a700 ? which one is better for my situation ?

my Sennheiser HD280's have fantastic noise isolation, but they are a bit lacking in bass so i wouldn't particularly recommend them for your needs. i don't have a better alternative to suggest, but look for headphones with a 'PRO' designation as they usually are designed with higher clamping force (and thus better noise isolation). DT770 PRO's perhaps? i'm actually heading to guitar center after work today to look at these.

I love my DT770 Pro 80s smile.gif

Awesome bass (probably the best in the sub $500 field).
Awesome for techno, hip hop, rock
Not so awesome for classical, jazz etc
Very comfortable - I have mine on all day (ALL DAY). They were a little pinchy at first, but the foam inside softens up within a week and they feel like pillows on your head.
VERY sturdy. I've dropped them on my tile floor at least.. ten times now and there is no sign of damage. These things are built like tanks.

Sennheiser = more mellow, light, vocal music.
Beyerdynamic = music with bass, drums, electronic instruments.

I've owned both the 555s and 770/80 pros. Beyer all the way for me.

This is the thread I found when I was looking at both of those cans...

I got the M50 and have no regrets.
