RV-02 Temperature question.

Thread Starter
hows it going guys, i got just a quick question. I am currently running a v6gt cooler in my silverstone rv-02 and was thinking of grabbing a h60 or h70 to replace it with. My 6970 likes to run a bit warm(nothing that would damage it, i would just feel better with it being a bit cooler) and im thinking that the V6GT maybe creating to much warm air in the case. I mean, i could be wrong and looking at this the wrong way..... But now to the question. how hard is it to mount the h60 or h70 in this case? or should i be looking at this a different way?

Your CPU cooler isn't really going to effect how warm your 6970's get - as you have three 180mm fans pushing up from the bottom, all the airflow is going through the top so it doesn't have a chance to linger and build up heat.

My first question would be, what temperatures are you getting on your 6970? (under 100% usage, don't care about idle temps)

Im wanting to say between 77-80 under load. I could better tell you if I was there at home with it. (At work right now)but it may have peaked higher at times.im thinking of getting the h60 anyway just to get the case a lil neater.

yea, getting a better CPU cooler wont affect your GPU temps. if your willing to drop the cash on an H-70, look at D-14/Silver arrow, better performance. If you really need to have some water in there, get the Antec Kuler 920, its better than the H70, but not as good as D-14/Silver Arrow.

As for the GPU temps, like the above poster said, we need to see some temps for that bad boy, idle temps dont matter. Also need some details, like are you running stock fan profile for it? do you run dubble moniter or anything?

That being said my first advice for fighting GPU temps is to remove the PCI slot covers/replace with mesh one's. and start by messing around with custom fan profiles, tons of software to do it.

Those temps are ok, seen them run up to 95c in Xfire and OC'ed. Make a fan profile and remove PCI slots if you dont like it that hot.

If you go for a push-pull config, the h60 should fit nicely on the top 120mm exhaust; I tried with a thick 120mm rad and it fits.

Here's a pic of one in the FT02 (not mine):

thanks for the help guys. ill give all this information a shot when i get home here shortly.

thank you lol, now i dont feel as bad lol

i had a h50 push/pull in mine but changed to a Frio. FYI, it had no impact on GPU temp. i've got an unlocked, OC'd 6950 and it really doesn't pass 80c under load, dunno what to tell ya.

as for how well it fits(old pic when i had two 6870's)
