Win7 12 hour+ Installation time. - Page 3

I'm sorry for what I'm about to say, but really? There must be something wrong with you if you waited for over 12 hours just to install Windows. PEBCAK. Who in their right mind would allow a Windows install to go on for more than an hour, let alone 12 hours, without thinking there was something wrong and intervening. Why should we (the community) try to help you when you are apparently this lacking in common sense?

Are you trolling us?

Zacky, reformat or try a different hard drive, it is almost certainly your HDD which is causing the issues...

Grab a bootable Linux drive and bench the drive through disk utilities/mounting+dd'ing it, I bet you will find that it is slower than is reasonable.

@OP

if you can. throw the drive you're trying to install windows on into another computer.
use HDTune or CrystalDiskInfo to read the SMART data and see if it's a bad drive.
If so, then it might be time for a RMA if you can.
try usb stick either your dvd drive or cd is bad, same issue on my brother in laws comp with xp, is the disk a copy or the original?

Whoa too many replies to quote.

-Unlikely that it is a hardware failure, as a hardware failure happening at the same time as I decide to re-install Windows is unlikely. Could be a bad DVD drive however.

-Mobo is set to IDE. Will install chipset drivers and set to AHCI. As for floppy drives settings, my board doesn't have a IDE drive so I don't think there is anything in the BIOS that would have that.

-Will try & test as much hardware as possible.

I've tried installing it like 6 times over in 2 days. I've ran into some sort of problem numerous times with different chipsets/drives/configurations. I'm just trying to get it to install now at this point. I've spent at least 10 hours with this problem. Yes, I feel like there is something wrong, which is why I cancelled the install several times before, but I'm letting it go this time. Yes, I think there is something wrong, hence why I am making a thread on this.

No.

I am having the exact same issue on a new build.

I have tried deleting all the partitions on the HDD, reformatting, set the boot priority to DVD drive, flashed CMOS and BIOS, fixed bootmgr, the list goes on.

...worst of all, it POSTs fine with no beep error. I think its a windows problem, not sure

I'm currently having problems with my 2x 500GB RAID0 drives as well =/ Some of my Steam folders randomly went corrupt as well as a few other folders. I started backing up what I can to format the RAID drives and this morning I woke up to the Steam folder being fine -___- how is that even possible? I had left my PC on overnight transferring the backup. (Not thread jacking, just sharing the same headache as you Zacky)

Have you tried clearing CMOS, resetting everything to stock, then attaching your HDD to the SB750's SATA ports (not the Marvell)?

How about making an installation USB drive and using that instead (if you suspect the DVD drive is the problem)?

Well........it worked. Like I installed Windows and everything. I just set the SATA ports to AHCI and tried installing. Failed first 3 times, then randomly worked. Everything is fine now. I installed Windows without an AHCI driver. Now time to setup my other drives.

Lesson learned: Computers are stupid.
