also note that even if your friend has the Vertex 3 and plugged it into a SATA II port or is not using the latest ACHI drivers performance will be hampered too. 500MB/s on SATA III or 280MB/s on SATA II.
Compared 2 2011 mbp 13" i5s. Both identical except for SSD (Both have SATA III for the HDD slot). Vertex 2 & Vertex 3. Besides benchmarks, i could tell no real difference.
