That's funny, because it's always the PC gamers that get bent out of shape when news about consoles comes around.

Seriously, I'm not sure why he even admitted that or what that had to do with building his point.

All it reinforced was that console gaming is just a playground for kids to do anything but game, and they just make it easier to actually play the game when...god forbid...they decide they actually want to play, with that auto aim stuff and simple controls.

It's your opinion but it's phrased to try to make a point. Point not taken. The console games have built in aim assist and gameplay tweaks that allow them to compete at a high level and look like rambo. In PC gaming, those tweaks are stripped away for a more pure experience that only a few can master. I've constantly was ranked at the near top of numerous leader boards and frequently 1st at end of rounds/races when I had an 360. Now on PC, I have to play a perfect match/race take 1st and forget about leaderboards, I'm no where near the top, more like the average.

If they created a pure experience on consoles(no assists), the controls would be broken.
MS performed an in-house cross-platform test proving that PC gamers with keyboards and mouse owns console gamers with controllers every time. I own an 360 gamepad to play other games that are not PC native like racing, TPS and fighting games, but for FPS, RTS, MMO and RPG games I use kb/m. PC= flexibility.

If it does native 1920x1080p at 60fps, I'm down.

ITP: The inferior control style is great because it artificially makes things more difficult.

Just sounds like an excuse to me, but whatever.

Anyway, about the actual topic at hand, I'm betting this was announced because Nintendo decided to bring the Wii 2 out. While it's obvious that MS was tinkering on something for the next gen, I'm betting they were willing to ride the Kinect train for another couple of years until recently.

Its an early dev kit. They did the exact same thing with Xbox 360 almost a year before it released.

Heck, many developers didn't get final 360-spec hardware until after the console launched.

That's your personal preference. It makes no sense to compare two different input types.

Joysticks > kb/m for fighting games.

Not really. Gamepad is better for a larger variety of games than Kb/m is.

KB/m is far more handicapped for it's users though. You have gaming mice that can read up to 5600 dots per inch, PS/2 interface with a lot less input lag than what you would find in controllers.

It really has nothing to do with skill at all. It's funny that PC gamers think such a thing.

Fact is, the playing field is even for each respective space, consoles and PCs. Just because you think your l337 because you play with an ultra-sensitive mouse, doesn't mean you'll be l337 with a gamepad.

Actually guys, I'm done with this thread.
"autoaim" is up to the implementation by the developer. It works as you describe in some games and not others. In some games with a stronger autoaim/aim-assist it will actually gravitate the reticule toward the target when you're near it unless your trying to move the reticule away. I worked on an aim-assist that would actually not move the reticule, but would still hit the target if the reticule was pretty close to the target. This is sometimes referred to by some as "large hit boxes", but doesn't always require changes in the shape's physics, or changes to "hit boxes", and is sometimes just a bit of math done to determine how far off the reticule is from the target.

I like after reading another article on a different news site it states.

Quote:
The source, which does not work for either EA or Microsoft, had no specific information about the hardware except that it came in a PC shell and was shipped to EA last month.
where as your article states

Quote:
Microsoft is to announce a successor to the Xbox 360 at E3 next month, according to "a senior, trusted, well-placed" source.
You don't think the lesser known site may be glorifying it's news a little bit?

Microsoft already proved this with a project they abandoned a while back. Since MS is on both sides, with the 360 and Windows they wanted to create something that let both play together. They figured broaden the community experience etc. and get more populated games...

Well once they actually started testing this and had PC players linked into the same game as console players...there was so much domination that they couldn't even begin to think of a way to fairly handicap the PC players to make it even playing field.
They ditched the project after that.
