Antec TP-650 Coilwhine?

Thread Starter

Sure seems like it, but does not seem to be as serious as the other cases, nor is it constant, mainly occurs during the menu of crysis warhead.. but not in game

Just wanted to verify this is indeed coilwhine, if so i will keep it, or drive down to the local computer store and get it exchanged. It does not make this whine when the PC is off or any other time. What do you guys think?

*also, what is coilwhine exactly? Why does this sound occur physically, and why under certain loads?

Yeah, that's not uncommon. Usually it won't do any harm, but if it bothers you; exchange it and get a new one.

Coil whine are the coils vibrating.

Quote:
Coil whine is mechanical resonance of the coil with the frequency of the signal passing through it. Physically, a coil is just loops of wire, sometimes with a core other than air. If the frequency of the signal is in resonance with the physical wires of the coil, the coil may vibrate. Oft times, the vibration is beyond human hearing (yokes in TV's can do this), other times it's in the range of human hearing.
