Do I have a run of the mill/mediocre i5 2500K?

Pretty standard for a 2500K or bad? It fails at lower V-core.

Why does it show 4.8GHz in CPU-Z when I enter Windows and will not clock itself down before I have ran and stopped Prime 95? Strange...

Pretty standard imo.

Thats plenty of clock speed anyways.

What separates the good chips from the bad isn't voltage, its max multi.

How high V-core does yours need for 4.8GHz Prime 95 Small FFT's stable?

Must say, was ridiculously easy to overclock this Sandybridge setup VS my old Socket 775 Quads... Think I used 15 - 20 minutes to learn the few key settings from the internet.. Lol

You should be using blend, most chips can pass small fft all day while failing blend after only a short time.

I don't run stability tests anymore because my chip will run prime all day, but bsod 124 at idle.

I have a very similar build i just lit a couple days ago and like you i hit the web for a few pointers and got 4.6 stable first try at 1.32v! lol they are very easy! I do read it gets a lot harder after about 4.5 tho! I'm staying were I'm at for gaming!
Not sure what makes a good Sandy?

Will do... Can it have something to do with the LLC giving CPU less volts in bigger FFT's VS small FFT's?

I think it has to do with the IMC/NB with blend stressing memory as well, but thats just my baseless opinion.

That is the truth. I did a 24 hour run of Prime small ffts with no problems, but blend lasted maybe 1 hour before I got the same blue screen that you mentioned. Do you keep your chip running at full speed all the time? I ask since you mentioned getting that bsod while idle.

To Turrican, what is your vcore set to in the bios? When I used the MSI p67a gd65, the load vcore was about what I had set in bios. It would go up while under load, and I could not turn llc off.

I've been trying Blend. Had to lower my overclock. I'm at 4.6GHz now and 1.365v V-core. It failed at 1.35v after about an hour. LLC is at Ultra High. All power saving features are enabled.

Will run Blend overnight at 4.6GHz to check if it's stable. Since I'm already at 1.365v and seeing temps close to 70c using my CM 212+ with the standard Fan preset in bios I'm not sure it's worth trying much higher. Will need huge amounts of V-core..
