How'd I do???

Thread Starter

Altogether with OS and wrist strap it comes to $765 after rebates. I'm going with stock cooling on the 2500k atm until I can save up for a corsair h60. Is this a decent build any suggestions?

edit- I think everything is compatible. Any chance you guys can help me double check, I'm still pretty new at this.

Then the Radeon HD 5770 will not be adequate, much less so since the board you chose doesn't support CrossFire.

Since you want to include the OS, a good gaming rig based on Sandy Bridge at less than $800 is not gonna be doable. You're giving up tons of graphics performance for computing performance. My best advice for this price would be to go AMD and then you can get a higher-end GPU. A Radeon HD 5770 is not gonna cut it. Would you be okay going AMD?

Well I actually found a student version for win 7 pro for $45 so I could spend around $145 on the video card now. Before I was going to buy win 7 home for $89 from newegg.

Hmm... well, now it seems doable. For $140 you can get the Radeon HD 5850, a card that's 45% faster than the Radeon HD 5770. The build seems pretty much perfect now.

PS: it's OOS now but it'll be back in stock in 3-4 days, so you won't have to wait much. If you'd rather not wait and can pay $10 extra, you can get it at

. This is absolutely the best bang-for-buck graphics card on the market, so jump on it.
