The EVGA GTX 460 2WIN Is Cool, But... - Page 5

Lower power consumption, and close to the performance of the 460 2WIN without all the SLI problems. You could also just go with the world renown XFire 6950s, for $100 more and get almost double the performance?

Why couldn't they make something more reasonable if they had to do this, like maybe a dual 470 card, or just an OC'd 580 (for the noobs that can't overclock their GPUs)? It doesn't make sense to me, people are hating on Fermi for high heat and power consumption, so what is this gonna solve? Even a watercooled GTX 480 could match this thing's performance.

I guess my conclusion is, although this card sounds and looks cool, I don't think it's realistic.

EDIT: Wow I forgot the biggest point, if you need 460s, you could by 3 or 4 of them for this price and SLI those. That's twice the performance for the same price.

WOW, I can't tell if the OP was asking a question to upgrade for himself or to just post a bash on the product?

IF you knew so much about it why did you bother to post? headscratch.gif

The card does have the cool factor. I like the fact that EVGA isn't just putting out the reference style cards and coming out with their own original designs. There is a target market for these cards and I hope EVGA continues to push this type of innovation allowing us all to have more choices.

Not everyone wants to buy a 2600k, which, mind you, may require a complete platform upgrade, costing over $500... and then the buyer would still likely be in need of a graphics card. In SOME instances, this card might be the best in terms of price/performance upgrade (single 16x PCIE slot motherboard, cheaper than GTX 580, not concerned for the difference in power consumption).

Looking at the results on PCPER, the GTX 460 2WIN beats out the GTX 580 at most tests up to the 1900x1200 resolution, which would cover most mainstream gamers. They would be getting a better card, for cheaper.

The 460 2win is a ****ty card, least AMD is going to code drivers for the 6870 x2 for 4 way crossfire.

What does the 6870's have to do with this OP? You always put down Nvidia cards btw in the Nvidia threads and then comapre it to unlreated AMD cards regardless of OP question? On every single post I read from you.

Otherwise, 2 separate 460s would be a better choice.

Sure the 570 and 6970 are impressive. But 570 won't do surround while 6970 offers 20-30% less performance, not to mention those who prefer physx and CUDA, like me (again).

EVGA said it was too late to remove it.
The 6970 is on par with the 570, and when in CF scales better.

Not sure what you've been taking, but a 6970 offers the same performance as a 570. Both will lose and win.

I was talking Nvidia is being pissy. I loved my 460 and I am sad to see it gone, but I moved to 6970s which out perform it by far.

Why put that much money into folding? It does nothing(I fold myself on downtime) and has provided nothing at all. Keep in mind I have Alzheimer in my DNA and it's going to be hit or miss down the line if I get it or not. Also, with the new tracker and stuff out there for folding, AMD does alot better. AMD is better at compute power in GPUs, just folding and other stuff is old as hell.

I fold for OCN because zodac and LiLChris as well as other notable characters, I could do it through my cpu, but I prefer to have my cpu open to me, I can just add GPU's for F@H.

Also 460's arent comparable to 6970's in the first place, so wheres the logic?

No, 6870s vs 460s. I love 460s and think they are better, but AMD is coding 4 way SLI just for the 6870x2. It still has done nothing and won't for many years, that money from the power would help more just giving it to them.
