Low performance from new loop? Help?

post #1 of 17

Now, im a bit of at watercooling rookie - in fact im a complete pc rookie, having bought my first desktop 3 weeks ago... but what a wonderful world it dragged me into Only 2 weeks after having bought my first dekstop, i ordered some parts for at wc loop, and installation was swift. Im just not happy with performance? Are my expectations too high?

here is my loope;

Hardware;
1x RS120 rad, approx 55-65 cfm fan
1x RS240 rad, approx 2x 50 cfm fans
1x XSPC X2O 450 l/h pump, head 1.8m
1x Rasa cpu waterblock, mx-4 paste applied (may be faulty application - did my best)
1x 250 mill. resevoir.
approx 950 mill of feser one uv-reactive cooling fluid.

the loop is mounted like this;

Pump>120mm rad>240mm rad>cpu>Reservoir>pump...

Now i have an i7 2600k cpu, runnning at 4.5 ghz and approx 1.340 volts on load. with prime blend tests i get a stable temp of approx 59-62 depending on ambient temperatures. See this is okay, but i had def. expected more from these two radiators.

Is this normal, or is something in my system not good enough? I could imagine that it might be the pump, since it is definetly a rather weak pump for this system. Could it influence my temps?

any ideas? I really want this loop too perform, and since i have just got into the whole desktop-world 3 weeks ago, im quite a bit of a rookie

Help is appreciated - ill try to see if i can attach a picture of the loop shortly

So this means i should be able to get better performance? I have tried reseating the block once though, but can't hurt to do it again

Waiting for a pic to make judgement. Shouldn't be getting those kinds of temps with that setup and voltage.

From your information it could just be seating, did you make sure to flush both rads properly?
post #6 of 17
why did you get 2 120 and 260 rad instead of just one 360? just wondering

and whats your ambient temp?

Watch the pics, and you will know why i didnt got a medium tower case.

My ambients are prob. 22-23c.

And rads are emptied of air (at least i think so) shouldnt be the prob.

Pump could be undervolting. I would definitely reapply the paste and mount. As well as distilled water instead of coolant.

Hmm why would i use distilled water instead? Does it posses better thermal properties than the coolant?

And how would i check if the pump is undervolting, if im not in possesion of a volt-meter ?

Ill try to reseat the block, and attempt to use the "buissnes card" method for applying the thermal paste this time. Last time i did the dot in the midle, and apparently it hasnt worked out too well

oh i have a med case too, you could of mounted a 360 on top instead of 2 complicated loops.

Did you make sure you got the air bubbles out of the rads? and pea method is better i think because if you spread the paste has a tendency of having more air pockets. and what thermal paste did you use?

and check your cpu and water block if there flat enough. cause sometimes there what to uneven.. thus giving poor performance.
