From what I have seen 6970 will overclock a little better on air, But the 6990 will overclock better then the 6970 on water. This is what everyone ive seen in the 6990 club that has a 6990+6970 or 6990+2 6970 setup. The 6990 have hand picked chips, So they usually overclock a little better

My two 6970s OC higher than most 6990s I've seen.

Off topic Sorry What kind of OC are you getting? Ive only gone to 980/1375 over the stock 880/1250 on air. It's got more in it, But im going to wait till im under water to push it more

Means 0 without proof.

My 6990 OC higher than most 6970s I've seen.

And you can't guarantee golden cards, now can you? All we're saying is that the 6990 probably has a higher chance of doing better OCs.

If you are looking at rendering then the 970 will cut times.

But if your going in for game design then I am guessing that you will be doing programming also. So have you thought about CUDA or STREAM and the use of Open CL ?

Or which of the big two have more/better support for this? It may or may not help out.

thats why i ended up and got the 2 580's, because of the cuda cores.
