Hd 5850

Thread Starter
I just installed my new Radeon HD 5850, But I am having some problems. Every game I try to play, Just won't play! Games I tried:
-Flight Simulator X
-Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare
-Call Of Duty: Black Ops
-Fallout 3
-Battlefield: Bad Company 2
-ARMA 2

What happens is that when the game finishes loading the screen becomes completley Black and the Program stops working, This has happened with Every Single game I have played. When I first Installed the Card I kept Getting BSoDs and I disabled the Onboard PCI Controller. Does this mean that I have to Buy an External PCI Controller, PLEASE HELP!

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Have you tried updating to the latest driver version? (11.4).

Double check the sound card drivers in Device Manager, try disabling the additional AMD/ATI sound driver that has been installed, I sometimes find it causes me problems.

Do you have the latest Bios flashes into your Motherboard? I remeber I had a similar problem to this one and only took a MoBo flash to fix it.
I'll check your mobo's specs and post back with better info.

Good luck!

I'm back. I just checked some info on your mobo and seems to be the problem is your Bios version

"M3A78-EM BIOS 2401
Fix the issue that system may hang during POST when using certain graphic card.
"
Here is a link to download the Bios.

before you had the 5850, what videocard did you use? Is it nvidia? or lower model of ati? If so, have you done uninstalling their drivers first before installing your 5850?

If some dirvers do not match with the GPU they don't get used by the system. Aside from the common believe diferent driver from the gpu doesn't have anything to do... I tested that theory my self... I had installed some nVidia drivers on my system and then installed my Ati Gpu and installed the drivers and it worked as champ. I might be wrong... But I have seen and tested this several times. Having nVidia drivers with Ati Gpu its not a big deal.

Make sure you have disabled the onboard graphics if that board has one. And set it too the pcie slot. And yes it is a good idea to remove any other drivers or software for any other video cards you have used, plus go straight online and down load the new drivers and software-also make sure the card is tighly instaled in your slot.

Good for you. Cos in my case, it's the other way around. Just giving him an option to consider since i experienced it myself, different issues though.
