[Solved]Pc turns on but?

Thread Starter
I get nothing on the monitor no bios nothing. Then after a few minutes it restarts. This is my old rig I am giving to my sister, it has:

EP45-UD3P
4 gigs of ram DDR2
5870
600w PSU

I cant figure it out, I even changed GPUs for the heck of it to see if that was the problem. Only new thing I added was a HDD for my sister. I reset the CMOS or w/e it is with no positive results.

I checked the manual to see what the LEDS meant and it said the higher the LED count the more the CPU was being used, it was at 6/6. the 5870, HSF, and case fans were all on and spinning.

Seems like the PSU is working then
Ok first what did you do with the PC before this happend?
In some very rare cases the Bios battery needs to be replaced.
If you got a volt meter check the battery. And while you are working on that it would be a good time to reset the CMOS. That will do no harm+might solve the problem.

If this doesn`t help i would try the g.card in an other rig. (Since this is an old rig i assume you got a new one.)
But please check the BIOS first.
Good luck mate and report back.

Yah everything seems to be working just fine, I just finished using my 5870 too when I got my 6990. All I did was put new HDD in and thats it, The rig was unplugged for about 2 week or so Im not sure if that has anything to do with it. It was just sitting in my room.

From Zcypot: "Only new thing I added was a HDD..."

In situations like this I first ask myself "What have I done to cause this?" Disconnect new HD cables (SATA&Power) or reinstall old HD and test. And try a different SATA port and/or cables.

You may have accidentally bumped something loose. A close visual inspection of all power supply cables and control cables, motherboard connections including RAM seating. And check the connections at the PSU end to insure they are snapped securely in place. And since you have a spare go back to the other graphics card and test. PCIe slots are fragile and its sometimes difficult to seat card properly. And ensure your monitor is at least powering up to standby. Do you get a message like "Display going into sleep mode"?

I might even try disassembling everything, clean the dust out and completely rebuild from scratch. It could be just a coincidence and some component just crapped out (a RAM stick maybe) while installing the new HD out. But I would take the above steps first.

I know you or someone here might have a lucky guess and save you the trouble but I believe these are logical steps based on your failure discription and sequence of events leading up to the problems you are now experiencing.

I have re checked all cables already, my cases are always dust free, I have tried to boot with and without HDD, I swapped GPUs about 5 times, Monitor just goes into sleep mode because it wont detect anything from rig.

I will have to try out 1 stick of ram at a time though.

Success! It turned out that the Antec 900 has a bent back panel kind of thing going on where the GPU is screwed in place so it does not come loose. So when I put the card too far to the side I guess it would not make full contact or something on the PCI-e slot. I can see bios now. Will continue testing, + rep to everyone above this post.
