vista was microsoft making money, give us the users something bad for a while then come out with something way better = more $$profit$$

and i had an old pc 2.53Ghz 1gb with ram, and it had a hard time running vista. but install W7 on it and performs x2 better

Never had a problem with Vista on machines designed for it.
The MS published minimum requirements (800 megahertz (MHz) processor and 512 MB of system memory) are a joke. I mean really, 512 of RAM?
My mother in law has Vista Basic on her desktop. It came with a Celeron D @ 3.2 ghz and 512mb of shared RAM. It was painfully horrible. I bumped her up to 1 gig and had a 2 gig USB drive for Ready Boost (which actually did help) and it was not too bad (but did take a while to boot up and shut down).
About 5 months ago ago I upgraded her to a Pentium D 820, 2 gigs of RAM and dedicated video card (a spare 7300GT I had) and it is a really decent computer now (for her needs).

My dad's laptop came with Vista Basic also, with a single core cpu and 512 of RAM. Horrible, just horrible. Used a 1 gig USB for Readyboost which helped a little (once booted).
I upgraded it to 1 gig of RAM within a week, which did not help much (it did reduce boot times to under 2 minutes). That was only on there for about a month before I put XP on it, and it still has XP on it running just fine.
I have thought about putting Windows 7 on is (it now has 2 gigs of RAM) but XP works fine for it.

Vista runs okay with lots of RAM shoved at it....

I remember a friend who brought a laptop, with a 1.8Ghz celeron and 512MB RAM... I stopped laughing before it managed to boot and be in some sort of 'workable state'. I was amazed that people do not try these in store before they buy....

My laptop has a Core 2 Duo running at 2.4 Ghz with 4GB of RAM and I manage to get at least one crash every other day out of Vista. Often more. I much prefer Win7, but I only have one copy, and I moved that onto my desktop when I made it.

I'll freely admit, it was worse before the first service pack, but it's still not great. At all.

Windows 7 is much smoother than Vista but it(Vista) ran great with the upgrade to 8GB ram and Raid0. If you take the time you could get Vista to run just as smooth as 7.
