Thread Starter
Hello everybody I just bought a 2gb pc-6400 800mhz corsair memory stick to mix with my other pc-5300 667mhz kingston 1gb memory stick but when i go to turn on the pc it wont boot, it just shows a black screen. My board says it accepts 667 and 800mhz memory. The pc only boots when i run the 1gb stick

I have a MSI K9N6PGM2-V2 mobo, can anybody help me with this?

It could be that your new memory requires more voltage to start up. It could also be that its not mixing well with the slower stick. You would honestly be better off running just the 2GB stick (if you can get it to POST).

yea i agree with pioneer. Nothing but trouble with blending in diff brands of RAM. And if you just buy 2x 2GB dual channel RAM these problems almost never exist. And the price for a decent dual kit RAM isn't to high imo.

Ill try that and see what happens, but it wont boot with the 2gb stick. I know it works because i installed the 1gb stick then went to my bios after that installed the 2gb stick and checked it it would show up and it does

Well what exact 2GB stick did you buy? It's very possible that it requires more voltage than default to start.

Well, that's 5-5-5-18 timings, and 1.80v. So make sure you have those set manually if you can, and it should work. If it doesn't then that stick might be bad from the factory. It's just a generic DDR2 stick, so really nothing special is needed.
