6870 causing BSOD?

I received a 6870 yesterday in the post. Today, I uninstalled my current drivers with the 5770, disconnected the 5770, plugged in the 6870, and proceeded to install the 11.4 drivers. Now, every time I boot into Windows, I get a BSOD. As soon as the desktop/task bar appears, it BSODs.

I can uninstall and reinstall the 11.4 drivers and plug in my 5770 and the system runs without a hitch, but I'm lucky to last more than a few seconds at the desktop with the 6870. This happens in safe mode too.

Is the 6870 bad? It outputs video, and I haven't seen any artifacts, but it's the only thing that causes a repeated BSOD. Thanks.

FWIW, I got the 6870 used. It shipped to me inside its original box, which was placed in a box twice its size without any padding whatsoever.

What Justarealguy said... it might be drivers... Or maybe you Mobo needs a Bios flash?
I'll check your mobo's specs and I'll be back with more info.

Edit: I'm back and I didn't foudn any Bios that had anything to do with GPU's... I guess its not Bios...

The drivers work fine for my 5770. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 11.4 for my 5770 four times thus far with no issue. The moment I try to do anything with the 6870, it BSODs. This occurs with or without the drivers installed for the 6870. These are the 11.4 drivers pulled from AMD's website.

It BSODs in safe mode. Once during the screen which shows the files being loaded, the card produced two lines of artifacts at the top of the screen. Other than that it can boot to the desktop at which point there is an immediate BSOD.

BIOS on the mobo is the latest, and yeah... it didn't cause any problems when I updated it for my 1055t in March.

I'm running 11.4 on my 6870 with no problems. It sounds like it might be a problem with the 6870 itself since you said it BSOD with or without the drivers.

Hey, You might wanna try uninstalling ALL the drivers and try the cards without any drivers whatsoever... Take 5770 and 6870 out and use the integrated video you Motherboard has. Then uninstall every single drivers. Then boot on safe mode and use CC to erase them completely.

After that, Just install the 6870 without dirvers and see if it works. I hope this might work... Since the way it was shipped was such a wrong way to ship, it might have been damaged in the way to your address
