Can I put a better Nvidia card in my Asus G72

Hey all I have an Asus G72 laptop and since it does not have a built in video card I am wondering if I can swap the 260M GTX for something a little faster like the 460M - 485M.

They probably are not compatible in any case. As the 400 series cards have completely different power and thermal specs. The best you could do is probably upgrade to the highest in that series of cards. Even then, your laptop has to have replaceable graphics, which I doubt it has.

Short answer = No.
I've already looked into this.

Ok, that is what I figured. However I am wondering if boogschd's idea would really work if I put a really nice graphics card in this expansion device if the laptop would render gaming off it. Interesting I will have to check this out some more, though they start at $380.

Thanks for the reply all

Honestly it would be absolutely pointless to try that. You would lose any and all battery life, and the GPU you buy wouldn't perform fully anyway.

And no you really can't upgrade the GPU that's integrated in your lappy either.

You're stuck with what's in there honestly. And there's nothing wrong with the 260m. Mine's got a 6150Go. Be happy you don't have that.

Yeah it sounds like a great concept. a high end desktop graphics card powering a laptop, I think it will be a great little experiment.
