Wasn't that the case when AMD last had FX chips that were better than Intel's?
Does anyone remember the $1000 FX chips? I sure do, 'cuz I had one. Plus I had a few Athlon rigs as well, oh the good ol' days.
Let's face it, when either company has the best chip, they charge what the market is willing to pay.
This time around, I didn't feel like getting a 980X was worth the premium, but when IB comes around, I will most likely get the 8 core.
AMD has been forced to play the price / performance game simply because their chips don't outperform Intel's, but if they did, I can guarantee you they wouldn't be priced cheaply. Just like the FX chips weren't priced cheaply back then either.
I guarantee you that this will hold true when BD hits the market.
Sadly people around here get too caught up in things and start believing that AMD is the underdog and could do no wrong, yet they cannot remember the days when AMD was on top and gaining market share with their K8's vs Intel's Netburst.
