Question on Vcore issue on i7 970

post #1 of 6
Thread Starter
Ok, my system is very stable at 4.2 ghz on my i7 970. The thing that is confusing me is that when I set my voltage to 1.35 in the system bios (Rampage iii Formula) but when I go into cpu-z it's saying 1.36v. that's a big difference so not sure if anyone else is having this problem. I want to lower the voltages a little because on prime95 there are two cores that have spiked to 81C but mostly stay around 74-77. All the others are in the low to mid 70's. Hopefully lowering the vcore will cool it down some. Only question is what voltage display do I go off of? I have never seen this. Mostly always the bios and cpu-z are always the same. Thanks!

If you want it to be exact. Then turn on "LLC" in the bios. If not depending on the load the voltage will go up and down a little.

LLC = Load Line Calibration

Thank you. I did go in and change it from auto to full calibration. There was an option for 20%, 50% and full. Thing is I turned it down on the bios to 1.34 and cpuz is say 1.35. Still off for some odd reason.

Llc will actually add a bit of voltage and that is why they aren't identical.It's normal,and 1/100th of a volt variance is nothing too worry about.

If you want to know for sure what your voltages are, install PC Probe II off of the mobo cd.

Keep LLC on as it keeps your voltage more constant instead of fluctuating with load.

Also 81'C is fine for prime95 load, no worries.

Ok, thanks! I also just started the prime95 blend test today and after an hour temps got up to 87 at one point. I'm gonna have to reapply TC and reset my cooler today. It idles at 30c though.
