Why the TI at the end of 550 & 560 but not at the end of 570-580-590 ?

Thread Starter
I'm looking to build a PC and was looking at the Nvidia cards on the web site and noticed only two cards had the letters TI at the end of the model name and was wondering why ?

By the way should I get the 550-TI or the 460 GTX and I want to stay under 200$. I'm putting this card in my new SB rig I'm building. I'm not a big gamer but wanted something good enough. I know the 460 is more powerful but is 2 year old tech. thanks

Just a naming scheme.

Ti stands for Titanium

Just marketing. But it does look pretty cool next to the 560 moniker.

the 460 is less than a year old...

and the 550-ti is not much more than a gts 450 with higher clocks, definitely go with the 460

The 460 came out last summer...

Anyway the 550 isn't comparable to a 460. Even in SLI, the 550 is worse than a single GTX 570. IDK why they labeled it as a GTX card...

Of course it's a marketing scheme...

It's to remind people of the great Geforce 4200Ti and 4600Ti that were awesome back in the day...

I think it's because they simply ran out of abbreviations and it hasn't been used since the 4000 series. Also, the very logic it's labeled Ti shows that they probably knew they were going to release less powerful 560 version without the Ti addition in the future, which was also recently announced too. But once again, using that logic, they could of called it a 560 SE like they did with the 460 series.
