So if I understand correctly, that means I could put 10 fans safely on each controller channel (or more). Am I understanding this correctly?
I would realistically consider grouping them into 2, 3, or 4 fans per channel. I checked newegg and they want $7 for each y-split. I guess I will look around for some cheaper y-splits

Yes, you understand it correctly (as long as all the fans are in parallel). And I think it is wise practically not to put too many fans per channel.

As for cheaper y-splitter, here is one for your consideration:

Lamptron FC-8

8 Channels-30 watts

I found that the zalman mfc1 actually had 7w per channel. I wish that newegg sold the lamptron controllers. I keep hearing people recommend the lamptrons. I found the 8 channel x 30w lamptron fc-8 at frozencpu, but it is 70 dollars. Hmm. I would like to get that. I have heard some of the sunbeam models have super-bright LEDs, which I definitely don't want. I will continue to search for the lamptron fc-8 and see if I can find it for better

I wouldn't bother with Y-splitter cables. I would just splice the wires together or solder them. It will be much cleaner looking than having a ton of splitter cables. I spliced together 2 AP-15 GT fans and run them on one channel of my fan controller. They cool my CPU.

I actually purchased a splitter cable initially but never even used it and just ended up slicing the cables together because it looked better and ended up leaving much less wire to cable manage.

Why the hell do you have 28 fans anyways? Do you have a bunch of radiators with push/pull or something?

Just throwing this out there, While stress testing the Rheosmart, I had 2 san ace's, along with 6 other random 120mm fans plugged into ONE channel. total of 8 fan's being ran off 1 channel. All fans worked fine. If your 28 fans are normal 120/140 fans that dont have high RPM or anything like that, I know for a fact you can run more than one fan off each channel. I ran each channel with 8 fans on it to stress test it. Both the san ace fans pull like 0.56a at 12v if i remeber right, the rest of the fans are nowhere near that. Hope this helps.
