New Netbook

Thread Starter
So, i just brought A Asus Eeepc 1015PEM today for $400AUD, best deal i could find on one. Waiting for it to come in.

I'm definitely upgrading to 2GB ram, and probably going to run Ubuntu on it. Anyone else got one of these? What else should i do to it/put on it.
Thoughts and comments are welcome

if your just gonna use it for surfing the net pictures, music and ims might i suggest splash os its based of linux and its very fast 30secs or less for boot andits a very light os its kind a good thing to have over top of a real os when you just really want to use the net pr ceck a email or even just chat on a im protocol. altho it should be fine with one gb of ram if you not trying to run all the fancy graphic stuff to make it look pretty. I have a hp mini 21-1010nr its has 1 gb of ram with a version of the spalsh os and windows 7 starter it runs really fast in bot oses as for the windows i just put in in classic mode and set it for best performance and its like a little speed demon

OP whatever you do I highly recommend staying away from mainstream Ubuntu especially 11.04. If you aren't aware there are other distros and even different versions of "buntu" which are better off. Kubuntu and Lubuntu are the two variants of "buntu" that I recommend. There is also Mint if you want a distro that is just as "easy". But again stay away from Ubuntu 11.04 unless you want to deal with a headache. The older versions 10.04 and 10.10 are better.

Can't say from personal experience with mainstream Ubuntu. I gave up on it and went to Kubuntu. I can say that 10.04 UNR was good. It was the only Gnome version not to die on me. But 10.10 UNR should be fine.
