BUAHAHAHAHAAHAH.... Did you born yesterday? Even X6 can't beat i7 920. Dude I've made many comparisons between Phenoms X4 and X6 and my current i7 920 with different clocks and Phenoms were... One word - OWNED o.O Also I have Phenom II X4 920 on my second computer (my father's PC) OC'd to 3.8GHz, and he can't even get close to my i7 OC'd to 3.1GHz so... BIG LOL to You.

OP - Sure get the i5. It's much better CPU than any current Phenom CPU. Even i5 750-760 are faster than Phenoms.

anand-http://www.anandtech.com/show/3674/a...55t-reviewed/1
yes i know the review is for the 1090t and 1055t but it also has the 965be
i guess you have never seen reviews ( for the phenoms... OMGORSCH intel isnt the super best winner hands down all the time?!?! *brain splodes* and especially in gaming their isnt a huge difference)
the phenoms are behind but they are not MILES behind the i series... man im sick of intel fanboys acting like they have some type of futuristic quantum computing ability when the i series isnt that far ahead....

oh and the 1090t does beat the 920 in quite a few benchies/games

ya i just ranted a bit in your thread, sorry about that... it is supposed to be the bomb and thats what im waiting for because im a fan of amd (price/performance) but even if it isn't right for you then you could still go with an intel chip, since intels prices should drop with more competition from amd

No I didn't born yesterday.

Not that I should even bother as your ignorance is irrelevant, but in gaming performance a stock 3.4ghz Phenom either beats or matches a stock 2.66 i7. In multi-threaded applications in which a program can utilize more than four threads, the X6 throws down on all of them except for the i7 Hexa-Cores and the new Sandy Bridge. Although a 12-Core Magny-Cours utterly destroys ALL of Intel's offering in Blender Rendering.

Heck, in Synthetic tests (you know, tests that don't show any kind of real world performance... the one's that Intel likes because their CPU's are specially tailored for them), the i5 and Phenom II X4 are neck and neck as pointed out by a previous poster.

But as the guy just wants to overclock and play older games, this kind of performance doesn't matter anyway.

well i have a c2 and a high leakage chip, so i more of less it a wall at 3.8 without cranking my voltage... which i could but i want to save my chip for a suicide run once BD comes out.... im at 3.7 with 1.45 vcore (stock is 1.35) but i can get to 3.8 with about 1.5v and fiddling with a few other voltages.... its very easy with an unlocked multi though! i tried overclocking some one else pc and it took much longer/more frustrating without the unlocked multi

For Ci7 920 vs PII X4 965BE CLICK HERE

Even AMD PII X4 is running almost 800MHz faster than Ci7 (3.4 vs 2.66GHz) Intel is still faster..

And once clocked at the same speed AMD doesn't stand the chance..

Even C2Q Q9xxx is faster clock for clock than PII X4 (both @ the same speed) CLICK HERE

CHEERS..

Obviously clock for clock the i7's are better, no one is disputing that. What I was saying was that in gaming performance the higher end Phenom II was better than the lowest end Core i7, which you can see in those links you provided (you can also see that HERE and HERE <- 1fps difference in Crysis??? and HERE, I suppose I could find more, but three seems sufficient).

Finally, most of those tests show that they are very close in many other areas, with no clear dominance from the i7, as such the cost difference cannot justify purchasing it. At least not for me and my needs.
