And Ci7 920 is running @ 2.66GHz, once clocked @ the same speed as the PII X4 965 (3.4GHz) it would blow it away,and 920 can hit 3.8 - 4GHz easiliy..

Also in multi GPU setups Ci7 would blow away Phenom II..

Phenom II was ment to be a competition for top end C2Q lineup, never really chalenged Ci7 or Ci5 in the term of performance, that's why they are cheaper and higher clocked..

PII is good chip but Ci7 is on a whole another level..

CHEERS..

But even with your "proof" you couldn't back up that claim. The performance difference is arbitrary at best.

Again, the OT just wants to game and overclock and as you can see, the Phenom's are quite capable of handling any game on the market.

Bottom line:

Is a Core i better clock for clock? Yes.
Is a Core i significantly more expensive? Yes.
Can they both do what the OT intends to do with them? Yes, with ease!

Where's the turmoil?

AM3+ motherboard with a Phenom II and he won't have to worry about buying a new motherboard every year when Intel decides to make you buy a new socket. He'll be good for Bulldozer and Enhanced Bulldozer at least.

EDIT: HERE's something interesting for you. Nice try with the Core 2 number smudging by the way.

It is faster clock for clock and @ stock so check that link once again..

And In multi GPU setups like GTX570 SLI or HD6950/70 CrossFire a PII X4 would fall behind Ci7..

Ci7 vs PII X4 = no competition really, never was and never will..

Well, this will be my final post in this thread as these silly nerd battles are pointless anyway.

The falling behind you speak of is only in regards to frames that your monitor does not possess the ability to display, anyway.

Finally, with the money I save from my rigs, I can go to more baseball games a year (of which I've already been to two), have my mlb.tv subscription (120 USD a year), take my girlfriend out to some nice dinners, lunches, whatever, and buy her pretty things. I am quite satisfied with my life.

P.S. Check the link in the post above. Your Core i7 couldn't even beat the QX9770 either.

Check that a CX9770 runs 600MHz faster than Ci7 920 (3.2 vs 2.66GHz)..

And just for the laughs a QX9770 is a 1k$ chip..

You don't know what you're talking about. Intel is not significantly more expensive anymore. For the price of an x6 you're within range of a 2500k, with boards at similar price points. Plenty of deals on 1156 stuff as well, which is faster then current AMD and shouldn't be much slower then BD(possibly even equals in games). Who knows.

And it's impossible to say how "good" someone will be with BD since we have ZERO performance numbers that aren't crocks.

I don't see how anyone can recommend AMD, RIGHT NOW. Maybe in a few months, but now is not the time to buy an AMD system. Hell, even my little i3 is much more consistent in games then a Phenom II, and kills the Athlon II's.

I love AMD, but now is not the time to buy from them on the CPU side.

I don't see how you can possible say a Phenom II is in the same league as a core ix processor with a straight face.

I honestly felt like an idiot after buying several budget AMD Athlon II\\Phenom II systems, when i3 were the same price. hell for 40 more then a 955, an i5 760 could have been had.

Go with the Phenom II X4 and an AM3+ motherboard, then replace it with Bulldozer when it comes out.

If you go Intel, get the i5 2500k + P67.

If you cannot afford that, then get a used i5 from here on the marketplace at least so you aren't spending a lot of money. The P55 platform and P67 platform are so similarly priced it's hard to recommend P55 anymore unless you get at least the motherboard or CPU used and sub $180.

How do I know waiting for Bulldozer will do the OP fine?
Because it's an improvement over the current architecture. If Bulldozer is an improvement, then it HAS to be at least on par with the Lynnfield CPUs, because The Phenom II X4's aren't THAT far away, but enough that a new architecture will help.

I just bought my i5-2500k this week and I'm more than happy with the upgrade. Now I was using amd athlon 640 which is not even close to comparing with anything intel has but it was an awesome upgrade. I spent 360 on the board and the cpu.

The downfall from amd is if you want a good overclocking board and a board that will preform great you have to spend the money on a much better board. With the p67 line they all are great boards and you are really just paying for the options. I used the same ram, gpu and hard drive from my last build and all of them bench so much better then on my amd board which was a Asus board. Now for you to get the same performance out of the amd chip or even close you would have to buy a 200 dollar board and the 150 dollar chip. Now if you want to get the 6 core then you are up to the 200 dollar chip and a 200 dollar board. Now there are some boards that are great in the 170 range but you are above or at the same cost of the the i5-2500k.
